Did the Titanic sink because of arrogance and pride?

This year marks a special time for families that have been affected by the Titanic tragedy that took place over 100 years ago. This April 10, 2012 is the 100th anniversary of the largest maritime disaster in history that claimed the lives of over a thousand people. There are many theories as to why the doomed Titanic was pulled into its watery grave to remain there for all eternity. Out of all, what will be discussed here is about one of the 2 notorious captains: Smith.
The doomed luxury Titanic was under the experienced hands of Captain Smith. Too experienced perhaps that he let 7 iceberg warnings from his crew slip. He ignored them and maintained the high speed required to get the ship to New York within 6 days. If he had listened to the warnings and slowed down the ship, the impact of hitting iceberg would have been less. Thinking the ship was unsinkable was perhaps why this human error occurred.

Facts About the Titanic Ship and Iceberg

Did you know the following facts about the Titanic : JP Morgan owned the company that built the ship – White Star Liner, the ship?s cost a whopping $7.5 million dollars to complete, 3,000 men were responsible for building the ship, a first class ticket cost an equivalent of $50,000 today, out of the 4 funnels, only 3 were working as the 4th one was only for aesthetic purposes and the ship was never christened because it was not customary for White Star Liner to do this.

Here are facts about the notorious yet completely innocent iceberg that struck the Titanic: 6 iceberg warnings were ignored by the operator who was busy receiving and transmitting passenger messages, the still waters during the night of the collision made it difficult for the icebergs to be seen, the ?gash? the iceberg caused the ship was about 230 feet long (the ship was 882 feet long), and the watertight compartments not built to their correct height. For the latter, had the Titanic been built in the correct height and not left open on top, the ship would have floated.
